Frequently asked questions hero background

Questions We're Often Asked

Everything you need to know before you go

Can I participate in a Proudback tour if I don't have 4WD experience?

Absolutely! No prior 4WD experience is required. Our experienced guides provide comprehensive briefings and are with you every step of the way, offering guidance and support throughout the journey. You'll quickly gain confidence behind the wheel.

Are the vehicles automatic or manual?

Our fleet consists of automatic transmission vehicles, making them accessible and easy to drive for everyone regardless of their driving background.

We are keen to join a Proudback tour, however my partner doesn't drive. Is that an issue?

Not at all! Many couples join us where only one person drives. The non-driving partner can relax and enjoy the scenery, help with navigation, and take photos. We also encourage swapping drivers within your vehicle if both are comfortable.

Do we sleep outdoors and if so, what are the sleeping arrangements?

We camp under the stars in some of Australia's most spectacular locations. Each vehicle is equipped with high-quality swags (single or double) with comfortable mattresses. We also stay at established campgrounds and station stays that offer additional facilities.

What if I have dietary requirements? How does the catering work?

We cater to all dietary requirements including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and allergies. Simply let us know your needs when booking. Our guides prepare fresh, hearty meals using quality Australian produce, and we pride ourselves on our camp cooking.

As we're remote, what happens if there's an emergency or I need to get in contact with friends/family/work colleagues?

Safety is our priority. All our vehicles carry satellite communication devices (satellite phones and/or PLBs) for emergency contact. While mobile coverage is limited in remote areas, we can facilitate emergency communications when needed. We recommend informing family of the tour dates and that contact may be limited.

I have existing medical conditions; can I still join a Proudback tour?

Many guests with medical conditions join our tours successfully. Please discuss your specific conditions with us before booking so we can advise on suitability and make any necessary arrangements. Our guides are trained in remote area first aid.

What happens if I have a mechanical issue with the vehicle?

Our vehicles are meticulously maintained and serviced before each tour. In the rare event of a mechanical issue, our guides are experienced in bush mechanics and carry essential spares and tools. We also have satellite communication for backup support if needed.

Do we have access to toilets and showers on Proudback tours?

Yes! We carry portable toilet facilities for remote camping, and many of our campsites and station stays have toilet and shower facilities. Hot showers are available at most overnight stops, and we always ensure dignified and comfortable arrangements.

What does the tour price include?

Tour prices include vehicle hire (fully equipped 4WD), all camping equipment (swags, chairs, tables), all meals from lunch on day one to lunch on the final day, park entry fees, experienced guide services, satellite communications, and comprehensive tour briefings. Flights, travel insurance, and personal items are not included.

Am I expected to be fit to participate in Proudback's tours?

A moderate level of fitness is recommended as tours involve some walking on uneven terrain and getting in/out of vehicles. However, we tailor activities to group capabilities and always offer alternatives. If you have concerns about fitness requirements, please contact us to discuss the specific tour you're interested in.

Who are the tour guides?

Our guides are passionate locals with extensive knowledge of Western Australia's outback, its history, wildlife, and hidden gems. They hold relevant qualifications including remote area first aid, 4WD training, and tourism accreditation. Most importantly, they love sharing their knowledge and ensuring you have an unforgettable experience.
